The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is offering an incentive to companies who install solar on roofs and carports and sell this energy back to the grid. LINK here. LADWP will pay the System Owner a pre-established rate ($/kWh) in the form of a Feed-in-Tariff or FiT. FiTs are front-of-meter connected systems that supply energy to the utility and grid.
Lease terms are 20-year, or a 10-year term plus 10-year extension option. Host Customer does not have to operate and maintain the solar system, and requires no capital investment. This is a “Front-of-the-Meter" system, so the amount of energy sold to the utility is NOT limited by the Host customer’s annual usage, nor does it directly reduce the energy cost or demand at the Host Customer’s utility account. Therefore, Host Customers will benefit the most by offering the maximum available space at the property to lease, across the roof and parking lot. See incentives amounts in the table below:
